Sextortion: what to do

If someone threatens exposure, what to do first (and what not to do).

Last reviewed: 2026-03-09

If you’re being threatened

  1. Don’t pay. Paying often increases demands.
  2. Stop engaging. Don’t negotiate or argue.
  3. Save evidence: usernames, profiles, messages, payment requests, URLs, screenshots.
  4. Lock down accounts (change passwords, enable 2FA).
  5. Report using official channels. Start here: reporting resources.

What not to do

If you feel in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
