Fake support accounts
Impersonators, remote‑access tricks, and what real support will never ask.
Last reviewed: 2026-03-09
Common fake‑support tactics
- They DM you with “account problems” and a link to “verify.”
- They ask for your password, a code, or screenshots of billing info.
- They push remote access (“let us fix it”) or ask you to install an app.
- They demand off‑platform payment to “unlock” your account.
What legit support usually won’t do
- Ask for your password or 2FA codes.
- Ask you to pay via crypto/gift cards/wire to resolve an issue.
- Ask you to install random “verification” software.
How to verify safely
- Open support from inside the platform (help center / in‑app).
- Use official contact links you can reach from your account page.
- If you’re unsure, stop replying and report the impersonator.
