Tube Cleanup Checklist: Fewer Dead Ends, Better Browsing

A video directory is only useful when every click has a reasonable chance of working. Even a strong catalog gets stale as upstream hosts remove clips, change embed rules, or retire old URLs. A regular cleanup pass protects the browsing experience and keeps search engines from wasting time on watch pages that no longer deliver.

Start with confirmed failures

Build the removal list from repeatable failures, not a single slow load. Check the original host, retry without extensions or aggressive privacy filters, and confirm that the problem affects the embed itself rather than one browser session.

Remove the page everywhere

• Delete the video from active browse data.
• Keep its provider and ID on a disabled list so the next feed refresh cannot restore it.
• Remove the watch URL from internal search and video sitemaps.
• Rebuild from a clean output directory so stale HTML cannot survive deployment.

Sample after the bulk pass

Open a small set from every remaining provider. Test a hub card, a tag page, a source page, and the final watch page. This catches provider-wide changes that an individual dead-link list may miss.

Make cleanup routine

1. Collect reported failures.
2. Match each URL to a canonical provider ID.
3. Retire confirmed failures in one batch.
4. Rebuild sitemaps and compare counts.
5. Repeat on a predictable schedule.

A smaller working catalog earns more trust than a larger catalog full of dead ends.
